Bill Miller's collages made from salvaged vintage linoleum create the effect of stained glass and incorporate the pattern and color of the material. Miller began working with reclaimed materials as a founding member of Pittsburgh's Industrial Arts Co-op, constructing large scale sculptures made of scrap materials in abandoned industrial sites. Kate Breakey's large-scale, richly hand-colored photographs are now on view in her new exhibition at Texas State University's Wittliff Collections. Painted Light is the first career retrospective of Breakey's work with over 130 selections from nine suites of photographs. The show encompasses a quarter-century of her work, including Small Deaths, her acclaimed portrait series of birds, flowers, animals, and insects. This exhibition is part of FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA and a second book in the Wittliff’s Southwestern & Mexican Photography Series is available, published October 2010 by UT Press.

Karen Mahaffy creates video, sculptural and drawn works in her new exhibition, Persistence of Moment, at Women and Their Work. Mahaffy's ephemeral time-based video works will be on view as well as several sculptures which were inspired by Mahaffy’s recent Research Fulbright to Estonia. An artist panel entitled, The Phenomena of Place, takes place Thursday, August 12 at 7 pm with a conversation between Karen Mahaffy, Megan Crigger, Austin's Public Art Administrator, author Chris Oglesby, artist Chris Sauter and other guest artists.

The 15th Young Latino Artists Exhibition is now on view at the Mexic-Arte Museum! Consensus of Taste is curated by Claudia Zapata who, according to the press release, utilizes Clement Greenberg's concept that suggests there is a “consensus of taste” in which disputed taste eventually is agreed upon by all parties. Featured artists include Jesus Benavente, Candace M. Briceño, Margarita Cabrera, Bobby Dixon, Santiago Forero, Eduardo Xavier Garcia, Ivete Lucas, Randy Muniz, Cruz Ortiz, Matthew Rodriguez, Carlos Rosales-Silva, Abel Saucedo, Vargas-Suarez Universal, David “Shek” Vega, and Jason Villegas!!! The Serie Print Project XVII exhibition is also on view with serigraphy from this Austin-based studio.

Your Hair Is Mine is an exhibition of new works by Michael Krumenacker at testsite. Through his functional and non-functional sculptures, Krumenacker investigates the ways "in which visual culture creates and reinforces structures of power and class", states the press release. By replacing and augmenting the existing furniture from found and available materials, he explores relationships between real and imagined spaces. Krumenacker currently lives in Austin after having worked in various carpentry jobs in Brooklyn for eight years. It is from these jobs that he draws much of the material for his sculptures.

The new exhibition at the Austin Museum of Art, From Process to Print: Graphic Works by Romare Bearden, investigates the ways that preeminent American artist, Romare Bearden (1911-1988), mastered the medium of printmaking. Seventy-five prints created over thirty years are on view and the exhibition is organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions, Los Angeles, with the help of the Romare Bearden Foundation. The works in the exhibition show Bearden’s literary, biblical, mythological, popular culture and western and non-western themes that were informed by his African American cultural experiences.

One of America’s most critically acclaimed writers, Cormac McCarthy is the author of some of the finest novels of our time, including All the Pretty Horses, Blood Meridian, No Country for Old Men, and The Road, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize in 2007. CORMAC McCARTHY: Selections from the Permanent Collection features McCarthy’s literary papers and related materials which are held at Texas State University’s Wittliff Collections. This is the first large-scale public exhibition showcasing the notes, handwritten and typed drafts, unpublished pieces, correspondence, and other items that lend insight into McCarthy’s career and writing process!
